The Remakery: a community space for repair, reuse and skills
The Remakery will transform a disused garage block near Loughborough Junction into a centre for enterprise, training and community projects based on the re-use and upcycling of waste materials. The Remakery will bring new life to 200 tonnes of waste materials each year, including furniture, bikes, wood, tools, musical instruments, computers, textiles and more. The project will provide training and volunteering opportunities and green jobs – equipping local people with skills for a low carbon economy.
The Remakery was previously developed under the working title of Brixton Reuse Centre (BRC). The information about the project below remains valid, but for the most up-to-date details please visit www.remakery.org

BRC Questionnaire
We want to know more about what YOU want from Brixton Reuse Centre. If you live locally, please take a few minutes to fill in the BRC local residents’ questionnaire. The questionnaire aims to gather local residents’ views on the project, to learn more about local supply and demand of reusable materials, and to understand how people would like to get involved and benefit from the project. Click here for the questionnaire (google form)
BRC Steering Group
The project is being developed and delivered by Remade in Brixton (part of community organisation Transition Town Brixton) with a Steering Group including members of several local reuse enterprises:
- Cycooldelic Revolution – bike repairs and training, bike trailers, bike sculpture and furniture, pedal- powered energy, recycled art and cultural projects.
- Treecycle Wood Recycling Project – collecting used and leftover wood for re-finishing and resale, furniture making, wood chipping for fuel and mulch.
- Transition Town Brixton Food and Growing Group – tool exchange, growing in reused containers, constructing gardens from salvaged materials.
- Ikosi Creations – clothing, textiles and household goods reuse.
- Re-Piano Project – public art project transforming broken pianos into mobile units for creative, cultural and environmental education.
- CommTech – IT equipment reuse and recycling.
- South London Papermaking Co-operative – handmade paper from recycled and locally grown materials.
For more information about the project download a Business Plan Summary (draft).
You can also download a draft floorplan of the BRC site. This gives an indication of dimensions and zones within the building (including delivery / storage areas, workshops, shop, office and training room). However please note that the final design is still to be developed, so the layout shown is subject to change.
