Saturday 3rd March, 10am – 3.30pm (followed by drop-in skill share / social until 5.30pm)
DIY Solar Panel Making
Make your own photovoltaic panels from (mostly) scrap materials!
with TTB Community Draught Busters
This workshop is not only fun but will give you a real understanding of how electricity is generated from photovoltaic panels. In this hands-on practical workshop you will practise:
- grading solar cells
- cutting glass
- soldering wires
- making wooden frames
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have your very own solar PV panel to take home – or if you don’t need one right now, you can learn the skills by helping somebody else make theirs. You won’t be able to use your panel to connect to the grid – but you’ll be able to charge batteries, power LED lights, and operate small electrical devices such as ipods.
This workshop is partly funded, but to cover the cost of materials that the funding does not cover we are asking for an (optional) £10 donation.
Booking is essential – maximum 8 people. Sign up at: http://tiny.cc/fyxz0
Please note there is also an introductory session on Thurs 23rd Feb (18:30 to 20:30). During this session we will agree on the number of panels we will make, advise on the tools needed, and arrange getting the scrap materials and purchasing the rest. Participants are strongly advised to attend both sessions.
